Just found out about an hour ago and she's going in the hospital to be induced 12 hours from now. She and her husband work(ed) for the same company and they're pretty upset. She's been working from home since the pandemic, so she actually had to make the commute today for the "send-off." I guess you can't pay for Super Bowl commercials when you're weighed down by pay maternity leave.

R- Dragon_Thunderzord • 18 hr. ago Yeppers. And protected classes are protected against at will employment terminations. They must show cause and the firing cannot be without warning. 4.4k Reply Share

Artsy_Fartsy_Fox. 19 hr. ago As many people have said, this is discrimination and she should contact an employment lawyer immediately. She can also likely file for unemployment (but check first with the lawyer).

Majorsquishy 19 hr. ago Since you mentioned the Super bowl I'm going to guess and say that your daughter works in the United States and the timing of this could not be better for her because now she gets to get an unemployment lawyer and make that bag for discrimination

Latina1986 edited 17 hr. ago 18 hr. ago Work in HR. There are a lot of details missing. HOWEVER I would NEVER allow a manager to fire someone in a protected class unless they had all of their paperwork in order indicating that she had been given written feedback on multiple occasions regarding her lackluster performance and that she was put on an improvement plan and didn't meet the parameters of the plan.

Short of that, you could have a good case if you hire an employment lawyer. There would have to be some sort of proof that she was targeted for being pregnant, and that could be tough to come by. But I definitely think it's worth at least a free consultation with an employment lawyer. Congratulations on your new addition! (I hope she has a case and that she wins!)
